
Course Description
This specialized course in Shafi'i Jurisprudence provides comprehensive study of the legal rulings and methodology of the Shafi'i school of Islamic law, founded by Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i. Students will learn the distinctive features of Shafi'i legal reasoning, including the school's approach to the sources of law, principles of legal interpretation, and methodology for deriving rulings. The course covers Shafi'i positions on worship, transactions, family law, criminal law, and other areas of jurisprudence, with particular attention to the school's emphasis on the Quran and Sunnah as primary sources.
