
Course Description
This comprehensive course in the Principles of Hadith Sciences (Mustalah Hadith) provides detailed study of the methodology for evaluating, classifying, and authenticating prophetic traditions. Drawing from classical works including those of Ibn Hajar and other hadith scholars, students will learn the criteria for determining the authenticity of hadith, including the study of transmission chains (isnad), narrator reliability, and textual analysis. The course covers the various categories of hadith (sahih, hasan, da'if), the principles of narrator criticism, the science of hadith terminology, and the methodology of hadith collection and preservation. Students will develop skills in analyzing hadith authenticity and understanding the scholarly methods used to preserve and transmit the prophetic tradition throughout Islamic history.
