
Course Description
This comprehensive course in the Sciences of the Quran (Uloom Al-Quran) provides detailed study of the various disciplines that support proper understanding and interpretation of the Quran. Drawing from classical works including those of Imam Al-Suyuti, students will explore the historical and textual sciences related to the Quran, including the process of revelation (wahy), the compilation and preservation of the Quranic text, the different modes of recitation, and the science of abrogation (naskh). The course covers the study of Meccan and Medinan revelations, the occasions of revelation (asbab al-nuzul), the science of Quranic vocabulary and terminology, and the relationship between the Quran and other Islamic texts. Students will develop a deep appreciation for the miraculous nature of the Quran and the scholarly methods used to study and preserve it throughout Islamic history.
